Terms of use

These terms cover your use of Farflung Game at farflunggame.app, including the Daily expedition, Unlimited, Survival and Links, in every language. Farflung Game is an independent project, and “we” and “us” here mean the people who make and run it. By playing or browsing the site you accept these terms. If you don't, please don't use the site.

The game

Farflung is free to play and needs no account. We may change the game at any time: add or retire prompts, correct answer lists, adjust rarity tiers, add or remove modes, or take the site offline for maintenance. We aim to keep it running, but we don't promise that it will always be available or that a given Daily or Links puzzle will stay the same once published.

Your progress, streaks and statistics are stored in your own browser, as the privacy policy explains. We can't restore them if your browser clears its site data, and they don't carry over between devices.

Acceptable use

Play as much as you like, and share your result cards and links to the site freely. Please don't:

• use bots, scripts or scrapers to play the game, collect its prompts or answers in bulk, or send so many requests that the site slows down for others;
• try to get around the site's security, probe it for weaknesses, or interfere with how it works for other players;
• copy the prompt bank, answer lists, rarity tiers or field notes into another game, app, dataset or publication;
• show the site inside another site's frame, or present it in a way that suggests it is yours or endorsed by you;
• click ads you are not interested in, or ask others to, or do anything else meant to inflate ad clicks or views;
• use the site for anything unlawful.

If you find a security problem, please tell us at contact@farflunggame.app instead of testing it further. We may block access from anyone who breaks these rules.

Who owns what

The game, its prompts, answer lists, rarity tiers, field notes, Links puzzles, text, logo, illustrations, design and code belong to us. Using the site doesn't give you any ownership of them or a licence to reuse them, beyond quoting a prompt or two when you talk about the game or share a result.

Some parts belong to others and are used under their own terms: the world map is drawn from public-domainNatural Earth data, and the typeface is EB Garamond, published under the SIL Open Font License.

If you send us feedback, prompt ideas or corrections, we may use them to improve the game without paying you or naming you, though we'll gladly credit you if you ask.

Ads and other sites

The site may show ads from third parties such as Google, and it links to other sites. We don't control those ads or sites and aren't responsible for their content, products or privacy practices. An ad on Farflung is not an endorsement. How ad vendors use cookies is covered in the privacy policy.

No guarantees

Farflung is a game, provided as it is and as available. Every answer list is checked by hand, but geography is full of edge cases, and an answer can be wrong, missing or open to debate. Don't rely on the game for travel, legal, academic or any other decisions. Borders and names on the map are shown for gameplay only and are not a statement on any territorial dispute. If you think an answer is wrong, write to us and we'll look at it.

Limits of our responsibility

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or from not being able to use it, including lost progress, streaks or statistics. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, or takes away rights you have as a consumer where you live.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms when the game changes or the law requires it. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the new terms. If a change is significant, we'll mention it on the site.
