Farflung Survival is a free geography quiz on a world map where every miss counts. Farflung deals random prompts such as “a country that borders China”, you pin a country that fits, and rarer correct answers carry you further. You set out with 3 supplies: each miss uses one, each Elusive or Farflung answer restocks one, and the journey ends when they run out.
It is the hardest way to play the Farflung game. The Farflung Daily expedition gives everyone the same five prompts each day, and Farflung Unlimited lets you roam for as long as you like. Farflung Survival keeps dealing prompts only as long as your supplies last.
Farflung Survival at a glance

How Farflung Survival works
Supplies
Your supplies are shown beside your distance. A wrong pin, a country already on your route, a blank and a clock that runs out each use one. An Elusive or Farflung pin restocks one, up to 5. Common, Uncommon and Rare pins leave your supplies as they are. When the last supply is gone, the journey ends and goes into your records.
How Farflung Survival is scored
Each correct pin earns the distance of its rarity tier:
- Common: 40 km
- Uncommon: 55 km
- Rare: 70 km
- Elusive: 85 km
- Farflung: 100 km
A pin that lands on a different continent from your last stop adds 25 km, and a miss scores 0 km. Each country can be a stop only once per journey, so the longer you travel, the more of the map is already behind you.
Your Farflung Survival records
When the journey ends you see your full log, your total distance and your average kilometres per pin. Farflung Survival keeps its own records: journeys played, your longest distance and the most pins in one journey. Every journey sets out with the same supplies, so your longest distance is a fair record to beat.

Farflung Survival tips
Rare answers are food as well as distance
An Elusive or Farflung pin carries you further and restocks a supply. Microstates, islands and exclaves answer a surprising number of prompts and often score that high, but once visited they are gone for the rest of the journey.
Don't gamble your last supply
With supplies to spare, reach for the rare answer. On your last one, a safe Common pin keeps the journey alive.
Never leave a prompt blank
A blank costs the same as a wrong pin, so any plausible guess is worth dropping. For more, see how to play Farflung.

What uses up supplies in Farflung Survival?
A wrong pin, a country you have already visited on this journey, a prompt left blank and running out of time each use one supply. Common, Uncommon and Rare pins neither use nor restock supplies.
How is Farflung Survival different from Farflung Unlimited?
The prompts and scoring are the same. Farflung Unlimited never ends on its own, so it is a relaxed way to explore; Farflung Survival ends when your supplies run out, so every miss counts and your longest journey is a fair record to beat.
How is Farflung Survival scored?
The same way as the other Farflung modes: Common 40 km, Uncommon 55 km, Rare 70 km, Elusive 85 km, Farflung 100 km per correct pin, plus 25 km for a pin on a new continent. A miss scores 0 km and uses a supply.
Does Farflung Survival affect my daily streak or Unlimited records?
No. Your streak only counts the Daily expedition, and Farflung Survival keeps its own records, separate from Unlimited: journeys played, your longest distance and the most pins in one journey.
What happens if I close the page mid-journey?
Nothing is lost. Your Farflung Survival journey and its supplies are saved in your browser, and the start card offers to resume it at the next pin.
